Davonte “Devo” Davis is officially returning to the Arkansas Razorbacks for a senior season. The Jacksonville (Ark.) native made his decision public in a short video posted to his Instagram.
On April 1, he announced that he was going to declare for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. Wednesday was the deadline for players to withdraw from the NBA Draft process and return to school. Davis was in Milwaukee for a pre-draft workout with the Bucks on Tuesday before making his decision.
A few weeks ago, Davis gave fans an update on when he would make his decision.
“Taking it day by day, really. I will for sure figure it out pretty soon,” said Davis. “There’s not a timeline, but I’ll know in a few weeks exactly what I’m going to do.”
In three seasons with the Razorbacks, Davis has averaged 9.2 PTS, 4.2 REB, 2.5 AST, 1.2 STL and 43.6 FG%. He’s also improved his 3PT% each season – from 15.4% in 2021 to 34.6% in 2023. Last season was his best yet, averaging 10.9 PTS, 4.4 REB, 2.5 AST, 1.4 STL, 41.5 FG% and 34.6 3PT%.
Davis has been part of some huge moments for Arkansas basketball over the last three seasons, specifically in the NCAA Tournament. His game-winning shot against Oral Roberts in 2021 sent the Razorbacks to their first Sweet Sixteen in over two decades. He was the heart and soul of last season’s Sweet Sixteen, leading Arkansas past Illinois and in an upset over No. 1 seeded Kansas. Following the upset victory over Kansas, he gave this emotional postgame interview, cementing his place as a fan-favorite.
Getting Davis back for another season is a tremendous win for Eric Musselman. The Razorbacks already have a plethora of backcourt depth, but Davis shouldn’t have any issue fitting in. He brings a brand of tenacious defense and infectious energy that can translate well on any roster.
Following Davis’ announcement, Arkansas currently has one spot available for next season’s roster.
