One of 2024’s top prospects is Robert Miller of Pasadena Memorial High School in Pasadena, Texas. The 6’10 225-stretch forward had a breakout 2023 campaign as a junior.
Miller spends a lot of time away from the basket and at the perimeter due to his scoring prowess.
He is the 40th overall prospect in the class of 2024, rated the 8th best power forward and top player in the Lonestar state.
The Pasadena prospect has recently been on a visit to Colorado and was said to be blown away by them. However, there’s currently three schools that stick out the most to Miller.
“LSU, Texas, and Arkansas are talking to me the most so far,” said Miller.
Despite naming those three as the programs that stay in contact most with him there are still other schools that he remains interested in. Tennessee, Ole Miss, Xavier, Kansas and Arkansas are all schools he feels a connection with.
According to Hitmen Hoops of the Full Ride Network, Miller shared three details he is looking for in a school. Here’s why Arkansas checks all three boxes.
Honesty
There’s one thing that Arkansas’ basketball staff and head coach Eric Musselman do and that’s tell the truth. You’re not going to be on a Razorback roster unless you can hoop. That means your shooting has to be elite and must not mind defending at a high level.
If a player doesn’t check both of the boxes there won’t be many minutes allotted to said athlete. Arkansas also doesn’t make certain promises when it comes to playing time and rotational situations. Everything is earned in the Arkansas basketball program and Musselman will share that upfront.
Development
Unless you’re living under a rock, the word on the block is Arkansas is developing true freshmen and transfers then getting them into the league. For the first time since 1992, the Razorbacks had three players selected in a NBA Draft.
One of the biggest movers throughout the season was the former Duncanville point guard, Anthony Black. His court awareness and willingness to drive to the lane and make contact made him a lot of money on draft night. Black’s ability to defend on the perimeter to go along a three ball and midrange game will keep him in the league for awhile.
Since becoming head coach in 2019, Musselman has seen at least one player drafted each offseason. Arkansa has currently seen five different drafts have a Hog taken in it.
Culture
The Razorbacks have a thick culture of basketball success. Although it nearly skipped 30-years, Arkansas has returned with a bang, reestablishing Bud Walton Arena as a feared venue while pulling in top 50 prospects on the regular.
Culture is a word that is thrown around very loosely but in this case not so much. It sounds like Miller is focused on going to a program that is consistent and authentic and will help him grow as a man. Arkansas can do that with such NBA experience on staff and knowing exactly what certain student athletes need to do in order to make it to the next level.
Winning is also another piece to the puzzle when it comes to establishing a culture. Three straight NCAA Tournament second weekend appearances for Arkansas under Musselman continues to help their program land big time prospects.
