BB RECRUITING

Arkansas Basketball: Shelley considering Arkansas visit

Published

on

The Razorbacks are in familiar territory when it comes to recruiting yet another top-50 prospect. 2024 forward Jalen Shelley is currently enrolled at Link Academy in Branson, (Mo.).

Sounds familiar to you? It should considering it’s the same program that former Hog and now NBA Draft pick Jordan Walsh came from.

The Arkansas campus is less than a two hour drive to Branson, vice versa. So, visits whether they be at home or on campus should be no issue if heavy contact continues to be made.

According to Hitmen Hoops of the Full Ride Network, Shelley is heavily considering the Razorbacks as the next destination in his basketball career.

Over the past few years Arkansas and Alabama have developed an intense rivalry on the recruiting trail. That’s led to seeing guys like Nick Smith, Jr., Grant Nelson and many more heavily recruited by two of the best programs in the SEC. It doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon as both are after Shelley.

He is potentially planning a visit to Fayetteville. While also mentioning that Arkansas and Alabama are showing ‘the most love’ to him right now.

Other schools have prioritized the 6’8 175-pound forward including Louisville and Houston.

“Kenny Payne and Kelvin Sampson have done a great job building a relationship with me,” said Shelley.

As any top-50 prospect goes, they hear from all types of schools is the highest level.

“ …Marquette, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Colorado have prioritized me during this recruiting process,” Shelley said.

Scouting Report

”Shelley is a long and lean lefty forward that is very talented. He has a good feel for the game and shows the ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. His offense usually comes in transition where he flourishes and has the insticts to make the right play. The biggest knock on him is his motivation to play with a elite motor. Shelley has the upside to play the game of basketball on an elite level but needs to add more aggression to his play. Asserting himself and leading with his athleticism and feel to make the right decisions off a live dribble will determine his ultimate level.” -Brandon Jenkins, 247sports
