Arkansas disrespected again by ESPN

CBS analyst, Todd Fuhrman, infamously once said “this is one one of the biggest mismatches we’re going to see in the Round of 32.”

He was referring to the gap in coaching ability between then Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard and Arkansas’ Eric Musselman. Why such disrespect coming from an analyst? One will never know. However, Hog fans NEVER forget general disrespect. In fact they hold it against folks until the end of time.

Last night was the newest development of an analyst being uninformed about a Razorback team. How can you look over a team as a non-factor for a College World Series appearance when they’re the consensus number two team in the nation? Not only that but has backups playing at a very high level.

Missing all-everything second baseman Peyton Stovall? That’s ok! Head coach Dave Van Horn replaces him with Peyton Holt, a junior college transfer that’s only batting .335, one homer and 11 RBIs this season.

Holt isn’t just your average backup either. He oozes with confidence and swagger while making highlight reel plays look routine.

The Greenwood, (Ark.) native signed with Crowder College before transferring to Arkansas this season. When you have backup guys from their home state doing these type of things usually has longevity to it. Kids from the Natural State will do all they can to sustain the success of their home state program.

LF Jared Wegner returned as a starter yesterday against Vanderbilt and CF Tavian Josenberger returned after a couple of weeks with a hamstring issue against Mississippi State.

In their absence, the coaching staff had to shift the outfield rotation around to having Kendall Diggs at right, Jace Bohrofen to center and a few others at left. Guess what? Outside of the blunder of a series sweeping loss to Georgia, the Razorbacks have been as solid as can be. They continue to win at a high level no matter who Van Horn inserts into the lineup.

Vanderbilt is trending down going into the postseason. LSU outside of their Friday night starter is complete garbage. Tennessee? They’re a shell of themselves. Of course, Florida deserves to be there.

However, top to bottom Arkansas has been the most consistent team in the conference. Oh, Arkansas is 5-2 against those teams in his list.

Mr. Walker, it looks like the Razorbacks are going to prove you wrong. Give them their deserved respect.

Want to be reminded of a few other disrespectful moments from ESPN? Look no further that Dick Vitale’s comments on Moses Kingsley’s foul in the SEC Tournament in 2017.

“They’re frustrated. There’s no place for that. You lose, you lose like a man. There’s no place for that, none whatsoever,” Vitale said after the play. “For those out there watching, that doesn’t make you a man, that makes you a mouse.”

He continued “It’s really sad in a way. The Arkansas team have done really and shown sportsmanship.”

Former head coach, Mike Anderson, let him have it! A few days later, Vitale would later apologize for the distasteful comments.

How about the time “the smarter team” the Duke Blue Devils were chosen by Mitch Albon to win the 1994 NCAA Championship game over Arkansas?

The blatant disrespect from Heisman voters in 2007 by not awarding the best player in the nation, Darren McFadden, the trophy. Arkansas fans are still angry since he was snubbed in favor of Troy Smith (Ohio State) because the star Hog was only a sophomore. Only for the Heisman Trophy committee awarding it to Tim Tebow, a sophomore at Florida, the very next year.

Double standard, right? Yeah, media members like to do things the hard way when Arkansas achieves things. It’s ok. They’ll learn the hard way, eventually.
