FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Razorbacks announced their team captains on Friday night, the Eve before the college football season begins.
Obviously, the two most productive offensive stars Raheim Sanders and KJ Jefferson have been chosen to lead the team. LG Brady Latham has been tabbed as the leader of the offensive line.
Jefferson has been the catalyst for the rebuilding project of the football program. The Sardis, (Miss.) native has wheeled Arkansas to 16 wins over the past two seasons as the full time starting quarterback. The prized signal caller has an opportunity to rewrite the school record books midway through the 2023 season.
Sanders, the tailback from Florida, led the Hogs in rushing last season with over 1400 yards and 10 touchdowns. He will have the opportunity break the late Alex Collins’ mark for second all-time in Razorback history for rushing yards.
Latham has been one of the most durable players in the country during his collegiate career. The Jenks, (Okla.) product has started 36 consecutive games for the Hogs’ dating back to the 2020 season.
On the defensive side, two former transfers in Landon Jackson and Trajan Jeffcoat are the top edge rushers going into the 2023 season.
Jackson, a Texarkana, Texas native, has added 45+ pounds of pure muscle during the offseason to reach over 280 pounds. The 6-foot-7 edge rusher has also increased his speed to 20 MPH. A report from his strength coach, Ben Sowders, said that is a 2 MPH increase from last season.
Jeffcoat, also known as “Tree”, was a massive haul out of the transfer portal. He was an all-SEC first team selection during his sophomore season at Missouri. However, was not able to be as productive in his final two seasons. According to Coach Sam Pittman, he’s has been very impressive during fall camp.
”In 2023, this is what one of them look like. He’s 280, can run 20-21 (miles per hour). Very strong, very fast, great leader and to be honest with you, probably hungrier than you’ve ever been in your life, and that makes a big difference.”
Finally, third year starting kicker Cam Little has been named team captain, too. The Moore, (Okla.) native was awarded a preseason second team all-SEC. Little has never missed an XPA during his two-year Razorback career. Statistically, he has been one of the best kickers in school history knocking down 33-40 FGA so far.
According to reports, Little has extended his range during the offseason with multiple 58-61 yard makes during fall camp.
