It’s amazing what this staff under Sam Pittman coaching staff is doing when it comes to recruiting. What we were told when the head hog decided to make a handful of changes is that they wouldn’t just be good coaches but outstanding recruiters. Men that can relate, be full of energy and be build relationships with high schoolers.
There’s no reason to badmouth past position coaches or coordinators to an extent because they did an ok job with what they had to work with. Arkansas was the dust on the floor when Pittman came yessir’n into town in December of 2019. He went out and put together what was one of the best trio of coordinators any program with a 4-20 record the previous two seasons could buy. Only one of them are still around.
Replacing Kendal Briles, who continually flirted with other Power Five offensive coordinators jobs, ended up not being too tough after all. Pittman hired Maryland’s Dan Enos to come operate an offense predicated on the RPO. Enos isn’t just a solid X’s and O’s coach either, he can recruit as well as he is set at quarterback for the next two classes.
Defensive coordinator, Travis Williams, is a budding superstar in the coaching ranks. During his time at UCF, Williams defenses specialized in stopping opponents on third down, in the redzone and allowing few big plays. His energy feeds not only the players on the field but recruits and other assistant coaches, too.
Arkansas has seen a recent surge in recruiting especially on the defensive side with the inclusion of co-defensive coordinator, Marcus Woodson. There has been quite an increase of blue chip athletes from Mississippi since his hiring and the Hogs are right in the middle of adding some as commitments.
Since his hiring, Arkansas has added Noreel White, Julius Pope out of the Magnolia state. While also recieving the commitment of cornerback, Jaden Allen out of Texas.
Outside of the vintage February National Signing Day’s in the past where we’d see flips the excitement in recruiting has tempered. But, today was one of the more successful and exciting days as far as commitments go that I’ve seen Arkansas have in a long time.
The Hogs added the previously mentioned Allen plus two Arkansas prospects in wide receiver Courtney Crutcfield and defensive lineman Charleston Collins.
That’s three four-star, highly touted prospects and each of them play at a position of need committing all in one day.
In the recent past Arkansas has set high in the rankings early on under Pittman. It was just in the previous recruiting cycle iin 2023 where the Razorbacks hovered around the top five for a couple of months. But this 2024 class has a different feel to it and it may be due to the fact that it already boasts seven four-stars.
Whatever is in the water in Fayetteville right now it doesn’t sound like it’ll be going away very soon.
Pittman and company ‘ain’t done yet.’
Turn that damn jukebox on.
