Sam Pittman knows that the key to any good team is good recruiting. And because of NIL, new avenues on the proverbial recruiting trail have been created. One such avenue is the transfer portal. 247Sports ranked Arkansas’s 2022 transfer portal class 10th in the country before the season started, but now has re-ranked each class.

Arkansas moved up three spots to no. 7 in 247’s rankings. Here’s what Robbie Weinstein has to say about the class:

“Arkansas won on a lot of evals in this class — it wasn’t a huge group with nine transfers, but the Hogs hit at a high rate here. Former Alabama linebacker Drew Sanders came in and immediately popped as one of the SEC’s top defensive players.

“Matt Landers, a three-star transfer from Toledo, led the team in receiving yards. Jordan Domineck was another three-star transfer who beat expectations with 9 1/2 tackles for loss and 7 1/2 sacks. Plus, LSU transfer Landon Jackson reportedly looked good this spring and could have a breakout campaign this fall. Oklahoma transfer Jadon Haselwood posted career-best numbers, too.”

Three players Weinstein mentioned later went on to be drafted (Sanders) or sign undrafted free-agent contracts (Landers & Haselwood). One other not mentioned—Terry Hampton—was invited to the Atlanta Falcons’ Rookie Camp.

Dwight McGlothern is another impact player out of the 2022 transfer class. He was constantly a bright spot in an otherwise poor secondary. In fact, McGlothern is the no. 3 returning cornerback in the country according to On3 Sports.

Promising Future

Right now, Arkansas has the 8th-ranked transfer class according to 2347Sports. The site still has Var’keyes Gumms showing committed to the Hogs but he de-committed on May 2nd. Even with his reneged commitment, Arkansas should still be in the top 10.

With 13 committed players so far, Arkansas has already pulled in 4 more than it did in 2022 and they aren’t finished. The Hogs will need to sign a few more just to fill in the depth from players entering the portal last season. To be comfortable Arkansas still needs to sign a few more safeties, another defensive tackle, and a tight end among others.

Right now, some players to highlight in this year’s class: Isaac Teslaa from Hillsdale College, Tyrone Broden from Bowling Green, former 5-star Jaheim Singletary from Georgia, Andrew Armstrong from Texas A&M Commerce, and Trajan Jeffcoat from Mizzou.

On his podcast “That SEC Podcast”, Michael Bratton named Sam Pittman “the real Transfer Portal King” of the SEC. If Arkansas’s current class works out—with unconventional pickups like Teslaa, Broden, and Armstrong—prepare for the coronation.
