Dwight McGlothern named to Bronko Nagurski preseason watch list

Arkansas’ best defensive back last season, Dwight McGlothern has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Award preseason watch list. The award boasts some of the NCAA’s biggest defensive legends like Ndamukong Suh, Manti Te’o, Aaron Donald, and its latest recipient, Will Anderson. McGlothern joins 94 other defensive players vying for the award.

The Razorback’s defense in 2022 could be considered one of the worst Arkansas has put on the field in its history. However, one of its few bright spots was the lockdown performance by McGlothern game in and game out. He had 52 total tackles, 10 passes defended, a team high four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one recovered. His 52 tackles was good for seventh on the team, but his 43 solo tackles ranked first.

The preseason accolades have been pouring in for the former transfer from LSU.  On3 Sports ranked McGlothern 91st best player going into the 2023 season and ranking him the third best cornerback. Pro Football Focus also graded out as the 8th best returning CB in the SEC.

With a new defensive coordinator and major additions from the transfer portal, the Houston native could have the best season of his career. McGlothern and the Hogs will take on Western Carolina at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 2 for the first game of the season.
