Former Razorback great, Alex Collins has passed away, according to the Baltimore Ravens.

“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins. Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”

The Fort Lauderdale, (Fla.) native was one of the greatest running backs to ever play for the Razorbacks and play in the SEC. Collins finished his Arkansas Football career as the second leading rusher in school history. He finished 18th all-time in SEC career rushing yards. The 5-foot-10 running back also recorded three consecutive 1000 yard seasons, one of only four players to do so.

Collins always had a smile on his face, was a ferocious competitor and always pushed players to be better each day.

Initial reports about the former Razorbacks’ death came from some of his teammates at Arkansas. One of the first to share was tailback mate, Jonathan Williams.

“Alex singlehandely pushed me more than any other player that I’ve ever played with. We were a great tandem and I will always appreciate the time we put in together.”

Arkansas athletic director, Hunter Yurachek shared a statement:

“Our @RazorbackFB family is again grieving the untimely loss of one of our own. Alex Collins was an electrifying player on the field & a ray of light in life. He loved being a Razorback & the state loved him! Thoughts & prayers to his family, friends & teammates.”
