How did former Razorbacks do at their new stops?

If you look around the country there were several impactful performances by for Razorback Football players. There wasn’t a single game on the day that had as much Arkansas flavor as the Colorado-TCU matchup did.

Myles Slusher made a game sealing tackle in Colorado’s monumental victory over College Football Playoff runner-up TCU on Saturday. Former DE Jordan Domineck was in on several critical defensive plays, too. Deion Sanders’ rebuilt Buffaloes team made enough big plays on both sides of the football in order to seal a key victory to start his FBS coaching career.

Domineck was moved to LB when he transferred to Boulder, (Co) this offseason. He made 4 total tackles in his debut. Slusher finished with 6 tackles.

TCU OC Kendal Briles slow starts weren’t left in Fayetteville as his Frogs’ had to punt the ball on their first drive which was a …. three and out. Then, their second offensive drive ended in a Chandler Morris (former Hog commit) interception in the endzone. The second half was a different story as they scored touchdowns on four of their six drives in the second half. With the game on the line and :55 seconds to go, the Frogs turned it over on downs after a 4th and 9 ended up two yards short of the marker. Colorado was then able to run the clock out for a the win.

There was reportedly some bad blood between the Sanders’ family and Briles leading into the game. It stemmed from the recruitment of Sheduer Sanders, the Colorado QB who was once committed to FAU where Briles’ was as OC during the 2018 season.

“But the coordinator that we’re playing against this week was there, and he didn’t treat [Shedeur] kindly. So there’s a lot of blood in that thing,” Sanders continued. “There’s a lot of bad blood in that thing.”

He went on to say his son is slightly like him when it comes to playing time.

“[Shedeur] could have gone anywhere,” Sanders said of his son. “His problem is he’s impatient like his dad. He didn’t want to wait. He’s like, ‘I ain’t waiting two years to get on the field.’ … So he chose FAU because he had a relationship with Willie Taggart that derived from FSU when he was gonna go there.”

Other notable performances by former Hogs

Former DC Barry Odom took over as head coach at UNLV. He accepted a pair of backup Razorbacks once he made it to Las Vegas in December. LB Jackson Woodard led the Rebels with 9 tackles on Saturday. Little Rock native Landon Rogers reeled in one reception for 7 yards.

2020 All-American safety Jalen Catalon transferred back home to Texas during the offseason. During their season opener against Rice, the former star safety didn’t register any statistics.

2022 team captain Simeon Blair transferred to Memphis following a letdown of a season from his safety position. The Pine Bluff, (Ark.) native registered just 1 TFL in his debut against Bethune-Cookman. Reid Bauer also pledged to the Tigers following a solid few seasons with the Hogs as a punter. He had to punt twice on Saturday with an average of 40.5 yards per kick.

One of the more significant losses of the offseason was Springdale, (Ark.) native Isaiah Nichols when he transferred to Purdue after the season. The Boilmakers lost 39-35 to Fresno State on Saturday but Nichols did record 5 tackles.

Whew, it wasn’t a pretty game for South Carolina in their 31-17 loss to North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte (N.C.) on Saturday. Spencer Rattler had very little time to throw which impacted former Arkansas tight end Trey Knox’s production finishing with just 2 receptions for 14 yards.

Little Rock, (Ark.) native James Jointer transferred to Liberty following the season. He received 3 carries for 9 yards in the Flames’ 34-24 victory over Bowling Green.

Louisiana Tech LB Zach Zimos has already participated in two games so far this season against FIU and SMU. He recorded 3 tackles in week zero but didn’t register any statistics against the Ponies.

One transfer that figured to factor into the starting lineup in 2023 was Ketron Jackson. He transferred to Baylor following the season and went back home to Texas. His Bears team suffered a 42-31 loss to lowly Texas State on Saturday. Jackson contributed well catching 6 receptions for 70 yards. His longest catch was a 31 yards.
