According to a report from the Houston Cronicle, former Razorback and Houston Cougar Reggie Chaney has passed away at 23.
Chaney began his college basketball career with Arkansas during Mike Anderson’s final season in 2018-2019. He would then play an additional season in Fayetteville under Eric Musselman in 2019-2020.
The power forward would then transfer to Houston where he would play on a Final Four team in 2021 but also two other teams that made deep NCAA Tournament runs.
Former teammate Mason Jones shared a heartfelt tweet about the loss of Chaney.
”“Pls give Reggie his flowers … if only y’all knew what he was really going through .. just a kid from Tulsa .. going to miss you brotha fr .. real life brotha , roommate and one of the realest guys you will ever meet !”
Arkansas basketball coach Eric Musselman also shared his condolences with the Chaney family on Twitter.
”The Razorback men’s basketball family is devastated to hear of the loss of Reggie Chaney. He was a relentless worker and loved by his teammates. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.”
Another former Arkansas assistant Corey Williams shared his thoughts.
“I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family of Reggie Chaney. Built a great relationship with him at the University of Arkansas, my heart is heavy. Praying for the Chaney family, gone way too soon!”
Houston Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson was high on Chaney as well.

Chaney was set to begin his professional basketball career next month in Greece.
