Huge news out of Austin, Texas today as their prized 2023, Ron Holland, has announced he will not be a Longhorn.

Holland chose Texas over Arkansas during the summer after a long, heated recruitment between the two Southwest Conference rivals. The Duncanville native does have connections to Fayetteville as he and Anthony Black played together in high school in 2022.

As a recruit, Holland is considered a versatile forward and one of the top players in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

According to the recruiting sites, Holland is rated the second best player in their ESPN100 rankings, fourth overall on 247sports Composite and fifth on Rivals.

247sports director of scouting, Adam Finkelsteim had this to say about his evaluation of Holland:

He’s very athletic, not just vertically, but in the way he covers the floor, thrives in the open court, can move laterally, and his speed.
While the term versatile defender gets thrown around easily these days, Holland actually embodies it. Given that, along with his size and shooting potential, he has a chance to evolve into the modern-day big wing that is so coveted at the highest level.

His overall skill-set needs to continue to develop, particularly as a handler where he can be guilty of trying to do too much, but there is a foundation to build off, even as a passer.

He has to find a balance between competing with an edge and letting his emotions get the better of him, but when he’s playing with the motor that he showed during FIBA this summer, he’s extremely impactful.

Arkansas was heavily involved before Holland’s eventual commitment to Texas. But there is plenty of speculation that there is interest between the Holland and Arkansas camps.
