FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — KJ Jefferson has been given plenty of accolades so far. Usually it’s a close race for top quarterback in the SEC, though. The best QB in the conference has usually been given to LSU’s Jayden Daniels most of the offseason. Even South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler has been thought to be the top player at his position… again.
Anthlon Sports came out with their annual magazine breaking down every single position in each SEC program. While evaluating their quarterback list they had Jefferson ranked first. Is that a good call? Ask an Arkansas fan, they’ll tell you. Ask others outside the fanbase and certain members of the media as well. There are plenty of people that believe this projection holds weight.
Why shouldn’t he be? The Sardis, (Miss.) native is about to rewrite the Arkansas record books once his senior season is over with in 2023. He is close to breaking at least 10 records including rushing TD by a quarterback, all-time TD by a QB, career passing TD, career passing yards, total yards by a single player and many more. Yet, there’s people out there that don’t believe in Arkansas’ fifth year QB.
With him on the field, he’s the Hogs’ most important player on the field. Without him, we all saw how discombobulated the offense could be. He’s the unquestioned leader. Even coach Sam Pittman told told him how much his return meant to the team during the opening day of fall camp.
”I’m so glad you came back,” said Pittman as he patted Jefferson on the back.
The leadership that Jefferson possesses just scratches the surface of his importance to Arkansas. 2023 will be the year he proves to everyone that his performance in 2021 was no fluke.
The 6-foot-3, 248 pound signal caller has passed and run for over 7000 yards and 67 touchdowns during his Razorback career.
