DALLAS, Texas— In a surprising move, it looks like Oregon is starting the Heisman campaign for starting quarterback Bo Nix right.

After vast improvement on his game going back to his Auburn days, Nix provided the Ducks with a memorable 2022 campaign. So much that he has left the starving fanbase for more. Not just a college football playoff championship but tipping it off with a Heisman trophy.

A huge “BO-dacious” poster is going up on a building in downtown Manhattan, too. The buzz is palpable and football hasn’t started yet. Hope that Nix gave Ducks fans a year ago has bled over immensely into the offseason. They’re hungry for some hardware.

Nix threw for a career high 3593 passing yards and 29 TDs last season. He also rushed for over 500 yards and a pair of TDs.

If Nix is getting this recognition, why not KJ Jefferson?

The Sardis, (Miss.) native is king of the hill in Fayetteville right now. Jefferson is laser focused and ready to take his Hogs to the next level on the field.

A repeat performance from last season in the win column will put a damper on his chances, ala staying healthy for the entirety of 2023. He’ll need his defense to live up to the hype when it comes to the turnaround. A retooled secondary and a more aggressive four-man front should take the heat off Jefferson having to play from behind more times than not.

The big reason the Razorback signal caller hasn’t been mentioned much nationally as a Heisman candidate is the lack of wins. As a starter, Jefferson is 17-9 which is a solid mark. But, winning 10+ games and continuing making highlight reel plays that he’s known for will give voters no choice but to consider him for a spot in New York City.

One can play shoulda, coulda, woulda in this situation. Maybe we should. Jefferson missed two games last season which hurt his numbers quite a bit.

Based off last seasons averages, Jefferson would have finished with 3111 yards passing, 757 yards rushing and 39 touchdowns had he stayed healthy and not missed two games. Doing this in the SEC compared to a weaker PAC-12 makes his statistics more impressive.

Purchase a billboard if you must. Place it at 1 AT&T Way in Arlington after Jefferson leads his Hogs to a road victory over LSU. Then, the talk of Heisman candidacy will begin.
