Ranking the SEC’s fanbases when it comes to social media presence

“It just means more.”

That’s the phrase the SEC uses when it comes to their respective sports and competitive spirit. What many folks don’t know is how power the fanbases of the toughest conference in America is. They’re vile, serious, crazy, phenomenal and sometimes just downright dirty to each other.

Some of the greatest Twitter arguments come from the top three on this list. They take care of there own often but can also throw their fellow fans under the bus when needed. SEC Twitter can be divisive but they sure know how to cause a stir on social media.

14. Vanderbilt

When it comes to fanbases that frequent my mentions the most it is rare to see a Commodore fan. That doesn’t mean they aren’t out there but they sure don’t make themselves known. Even during baseball season they don’t take the bait. A lot of them are possibly doctors and lawyers so they may have more going on in life than the average fan does, right?

13. Alabama

Honestly, the Crimson Tide fan don’t have to do their talking on Twitter since their football program actually gets it done on the field. Much respect to Tuscaloosa’s finest.

12. LSU

Twitter doesn’t smell like corndogs so that may not be the place for them sadly. Except I did see them come to the defense of their team when the Louisiana baseball team was playing at a high level, too. Being back in the national scene of things after a few years off could reenergize a raucous fanbase once again.

2023 shows promise for the football team and I look forward to hearing more from Tiger fans in my mentions.

11. Texas A&M

Aggie fans are a different breed. They do these interesting yell practices and still claim their a top tier SEC team despite only having one 10-win season since 2012. I’m just not sold on them being a top social media fanbase though.

10. Auburn

These fellows are quiet but will bite when provoked. They like to live in the past and complain about how wrong they’ve been done on the football field since they haven’t competed at the national level since 2013. The addition of Hugh Freeze as head coach could send War Eagle fans over the top as an uncontrollable freaks if he starts winning on The Plains.

9. Kentucky

Wildcat fans know their basketball. Yet, they still hiss a lot despite not reaching the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since the Pandemic began.

They’ll defend Mark Stoops forever and it’s well deserved as he’s taken Kentucky to heights they really haven’t seen before. Seeing their commentary on Calipari is hilarious. Some are in denial about the state of their basketball program while some look for a change to be made sooner rather than later.

8. Florida

Half their fanbase is still holding onto the Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer days. But, they are beginning to stretch further and further away from the golden years. Their fanbase doesn’t want to admit it.

The other half are hopelessly devoted to Billy Napier and what he’s building. Some think a turnaround season in 2023 is right around the corner.

7. Georgia

They’ve won the last two College Football Playoffs and let you know it. One minor fault is they take up for their players in trouble more than any fanbase.

With their winning ways there’s still some sort of annoying underdog complex going on. It’s similar to Clemson and Dabo Swinney’s mindset. At some point you have to realize you’re the hunted and not the hunter.

6. Missouri

For a group of fans that haven’t won much in any program at least they are passionate. They love to brag about their success against Arkansas during the Battle Line Rivalry, how superior Dennis Gates is to every SEC coach and how great of an athletic department they have despite their winning ways.

Give them credit for loving their Tigers. They’re longsuffering, similar to Miami Dolphins fans.

5. South Carolina

Nothing compares to the atmosphere at Williams-Brice Stadium than their rowdy faithful’s presence on Twitter. They love to brag about how their Gamecocks are on the rise following two wins against top 10 teams to close the regular season.

We must admit that Shane Beamer’s brand is fun to follow. Everything he does social media wise to market his program is cool and gets folks talking.

Follow a few Gamecock fans. They’re cool!

4. Ole Miss

The frat guy fan base of the SEC is this one. They’re fun to talk to, don’t take themselves too seriously but know they have something special with Lane Kiffin.

When success comes, Rebel fans will let you know it. They’re no longer in the purgatory years of Ed Orgeron and Houston Nutt and they’re relishing in some of the best times in program history.

This fanbase is a passionate one when it comes to baseball. Dominant performances in Omaha plus the chaos caused at Rocco’s is totally an Ole Miss thing.

If Chris Beard makes them competitive in basketball they could become unbearable.

3. Mississippi State

The kings of baseball know their place. They always pack out Dudy Noble Field and yell more cowbell at football games.

As for social media they’re in opposing teams mentions like no other talking about team dominance in recent years including a CWS championship. It’s all in fun and deserve to be ranked high on the list.

2. Arkansas

#HogTwitter is a thing, y’all and it can be beautiful, ugly, nasty and unforgiving all in the same day. It’s almost like ‘Days Of Our Lives’ on the bird app with things being taken too seriously far too often.

They relish on being super excited for upcoming athletic seasons. Often there is talk of how close they’ve been to national championships on multiple occasions.

Most of the time they like to talk about the fraudulent Heisman Trophy ceremony in 2007 when their beloved Darren McFadden was snubbed. Another sore subject is how Missouri isn’t a rivalry either. Hogs by 90 should be a trademarked statement, John Nabors.

1. Tennessee

This group of fans are the ultimate ones to interact with on Twitter. They endured a 15-season stretch of hell on grass when it came to suffering as a group. The football program went through coach after coach like Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt. Now, they have settled with Josh Heupel who has reinvigorated Volunteer football and established pride in the program once again.

Volunteer fans do think they’re above anybody when it comes to their baseball program but they just haven’t won anything yet. Could they be the next Arkansas program? Always the bridesmaid but never the bride. Close but no cigar.

Eventually, Tennessee will climb the championship ladder and the fanbase will continue to get louder on social media until that day comes.
