Arkansas will be in trying to figure out their new offensive and defensive schemes throughout the summer. There may be questions on the defensive side of the ball losing playmakers at all three levels. However, the offense shows promise with the return of stars like KJ Jefferson and Raheim Sanders.
The defensive ends showed plenty of promise being able to rush the passer. Former transfers Trajan Jeffcoat and Landon Jackson look the part and we’re very effective edge rushers this spring.
With returners like Zach Williams, John Morgan, Jashaud Stewart and Nico Davillier adding to the depth the Hogs should not have a letdown when it comes to disrupting the rhythm in the backfield. Last season, the linebackers were very active at forcing negative plays. Although Drew Sanders may be gone to the NFL, Chris “Pooh” Paul showed plenty of promise in 2022 to do the same.
Here is 247sports, Brad Crawford, had to say about Arkansas’ eighth place post-spring ranking:
Sam Pittman’s team is an extremely challenging assessment exiting spring, but you have to like what the Razorbacks have done in the transfer portal to reshape its defensive two-deep. Several of these Arkansas signees had other major offers and the promise of immediate first-team reps had to be a primary selling point. And even with Dan Enos pushing this offense to a largely pro-style scheme in 2023, there should be very little worry about production when you have playmakers like Raheim Sanders (running back) and KJ Jefferson (quarterback) returning to lead.
You can read the rest of his SEC post-spring rankings here.
All things considered, a ninth place ranking is a very fair with all the changes that have taken place in Fayetteville this offseason. The transitions among the coaching staff and roster transfers have been rather smooth so far. But, when you have as many starters on the offense returning and adding the experience of former starters at the power five level it could be a special season in 2023.
