Call it a genuine surprise if you must.

Arkansas brings in transfer receiver, Andrew Armstrong, from Texas A&M Commerce. He was graded as the second best returning receiver in the country for 2023.

The 6’4 201 pound wideout burst onto the scene last season as a sophomore for the FCS Lions program.

He played in 11 games during the 2022 season and caught a team-leading 62 passes for a team-high 1,020 yards (16.5 ypc). He also led the Lions with a team high 13 touchdowns. Armstrong averaged 92.7 receiving yards per game. The deep threat finished the season as A&M-Commerce’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2014.

During the Red-White Spring Scrimmage, Armstrong showed his ability to catch in space and create on the boundary. He caught 2 passes for 25 yards.

Pittman tinkered with the Bishop Dunne product during the spring using him in the slot and as a boundary receiver.

Armstrong is a member of the 10th ranked transfer portal class, according to 247sports. He joins Isaac TeSlaa and Tyrone Broden as a trio of tall, physical wideouts ready to move up whether it be in division or competition level.

The former FCS wideout isn’t the only transfer to be ranked within the top ten. Georgia’s Dominic Lovett has transferred in from Missouri. Lovett was slightly ahead of Armstrong in the rankings with a grade of 83.8.

Arkansas will be replacing five of their top receivers from just a year ago. Matt Landers, Jadon Haselwood both expired their eligibility as Arkansas’ two top pass catchers. Trey Knox and Ketron Jackson both transferred to other Power Five Programs. While Warren Thompson, Jr. left the team due to personal reasons before the end of 2022.
