More Razorbacks continue to be honored by award committees. Today, Raheim “Rocket” Sanders has been named to the prestigious Doak Walker Award preseason watch list. The award is given to the top running back in college football following each season.
Sanders is one of the more versatile running backs in the country going into the season. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with ease gives new OC Dan Enos an extra option through the air.
Arkansas saw the Rockledge, (Fla.) native rush for 1443 yards, 271 yards receiving and 12 total touchdowns. The rising junior topped 100 yards rushing eight times in 2022 including two games over 200 yards.
The 6-foot-2 242 pound running back led the SEC in rushing for much of the season before being overtaken by Ole Miss’ Quinshon Judkins.
Other notable running backs that were named to the list are Blake Corum from Michigan, Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen and Ole Miss’ Quinshon Judkins.
The award has been a mainstay in the college football world since the 1990 season. Arkansas’ Darren McFadden in 2007 is the only Razorback to receive such a prestigious honor.
Sanders and his Razorback team will take the field against Western Carolina on September 2 beginning at 3 PM. The game will take place in Little Rock at the historic War Memorial Stadium instead of Fayetteville at Razorback Stadium.
